Lynn Fairweather, President
Lynn Fairweather, MSW is an abuse survivor who has worked in the domestic and sexual violence response and prevention field for the past twenty-two years. In her current role as President of Presage Consulting and Training, she is responsible for providing expert guidance and specialized education to professionals who confront domestic violence in both the public and private sector. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Science, a master’s degree in Social Work, and multiple training certifications from institutions such as Homeland Security’s Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and Gavin de Becker’s Advanced Threat Assessment Academy. Ms. Fairweather has worked as a case manager and victim advocate in shelters, police departments, courtrooms, and university settings. She has also served on state and county level task forces, and facilitated victim support groups as well as batterer’s intervention programs. She is an active member in the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, and has served on the board of directors for the Northwest chapter. Ms. Fairweather is the author of “Stop Signs: Recognizing, Avoiding, and Escaping Abusive Relationships” (Seal Press 2012).
Niki Terzieff, Vice President and Co-Founder
Niki Terzieff has over a decade of experience in legislative and electoral politics as a fundraiser, organizer, and lobbyist working on city, county, state and Congressional races to advance a common-sense and progressive agenda for Oregon and the Northwest. Among other things, she has been a campaign director and legislative chief of staff for a former House Democratic Majority Leader, an administrator for the Women’s Investment Network PAC, chief of staff for the Chair of the Ways & Means Education Sub Committee, the Oregon Finance Director for Senator Jeff Merkley, the events director for Governor John Kitzhaber, and the Legislative Director at Strategies 360. Niki is the Founder and President of Leading Edge Public Affairs consulting firm. She has a B.S. in political science and a certificate in community leadership from Portland State University.
Amanda Green, Treasurer
Amanda Green has been passionately involved in the violence prevention movement since 2005. She worked as the Associate Executive Director of the national grassroots sexual violence prevention organization, PAVE, from 2009-2012 and currently holds a seat on the Prevention and Education Committee of the Oregon Sexual Assault Task Force. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin in Consumer Affairs in Government and a Masters degree in Public Administration, focusing on nonprofit management, from Portland State University. She cut her teeth in government affairs as the graduate assistant to the Portland State University Government Relations team, and has been inspired by progressive political action ever since. Presently she works as the Finance and Administration Director at Bitch Media and as an independent grants contractor for several local nonprofits. Amanda is a founding member of the VAW PAC Board.
Lindsay Nelson, Secretary
Lindsay has been active in community service since very young, but found her passion in victims’ rights advocacy in 2007. She pioneered the internship program at a Union Gospel Mission women shelter then volunteered for a year at the Marion County District Attorney’s office as a bilingual victim advocate, informing survivors of their rights, accompanying them to hearings, and supporting sexual assault victims as they attended sexual assault forensic exams. Taking the knowledge of pitfalls and supports in the criminal justice system, along with her experience in coordination positions, she volunteered to spear head state legislation in 2011 for sex-trafficking victims. She previously worked for the state as a Wage and Hour specialist informing workers of their rights and for Multnomah County Department of Community Justice, both in bilingual positions serving the Hispanic community. Currently, Lindsay works as a Consultant with M+R in Portland. She earned a Bachelors in Science of Human Services and a Masters of Public Administration from University of Phoenix. She continues to be politically active in volunteering with advocacy groups and working directly with legislators regarding criminal justice issues.
BB Beltran has been involved in the movement to end domestic and sexual violence since 2004. For over four and a half years she worked at the Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force where she helped coordinate the Task Force membership and Sexual Assault Training Institute, as well as assisted with legislative research and advocacy. She has also served on the Lane County Commission for the Advancement of Human Rights. BB currently directs a local non-profit sexual assault advocacy organization. She has a B.A. from the University of Oregon. BB is a founding member of the VAW PAC Board.
Lorena is the Managing Attorney at The Reynolds Law Firm, PC. From 2009-2013, she was also on the faculty at Oregon State University where she taught classes in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department, including Gender, Stalking, and the Law; Sex Trafficking and Sex Work; and Violence Against Women. She began volunteering in the movement to end violence against women and girls in 1988. She has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence since 1999 and has volunteered for many other programs. Lorena graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with a degree in Philosophy, and received her law degree from the UCLA School of Law. After law school, she worked at Legal Aid Services of Oregon, first as an AmeriCorps attorney in Ontario, Oregon, and then as a staff attorney at the Albany regional office where her practice emphasized representing survivors of violence. Lorena is a frequent speaker and presenter on the topic of violence against women. She has worked on countless individual cases, legislative committees, and local and statewide task forces representing the interests survivors. She is the 2006 recipient of the Mary Zelinka Advocate for Social Justice Award and a 2010 recipient of the OSU Woman of Achievement Award for her dedication to working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Joel Shapiro has over twenty years of legal and political experience. He has served as legislative/policy counsel for federal, state, and local policymakers, including serving as Judiciary Counsel to Senator Ron Wyden. Joel has also served as a Deputy District Attorney for Multnomah County and a law clerk in the U.S. Attorney’s office; as an Adjunct Professor at Lewis & Clark Law School, teaching on legislative and political process; and as the Outreach Director for the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association. During his time as a law student, Joel drafted and successfully lobbied for the creation of a new hearsay exception for domestic violence cases, the first such law in the country. Currently, Joel is working to combat sex trafficking and bring services to women and girls who are trafficking victims as well as serving as a pro bono attorney at the National Crime Victims Law Institute and as an attorney in private practice. Joel received a B.A. in Political Science from Grinnell College and a J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School.
Over the last 16 years, Tim Trickey has worked on more than 20 legislative campaigns, two Governor’s races and two Presidential elections. He’s spent his career in the trenches helping candidates and political groups refine their messaging, develop support and, eventually, win elections. Outside of politics, Tim served as a Firefighter/EMT/Public Information Officer with the Estacada Rural Fire District #69 for four years. Before shifting into the private sector, Tim most recently served as the Political Director for the Senate Republican Caucus as well as the Chief of Staff to Senator Larry George. Currently, Tim Trickey is the co-owner and President of NW Market Research, a local company dedicated to helping grassroots organizations, PACs and non-profits gather information, recruit supporters and raise money. Tim has a B.A. in Political Science from Oregon State University.
